Williams had a pair of hits and drove in three runs to lead the Porter County Storm to an 8-1 win over the Crown Point All-Stars in the second round of the Babe Ruth Baseball 16-18 state tournament Friday.
The Storm advance to the winners' bracket final against South Bend East on Saturday afternoon.
"I went to the batting cages and went in the fast-pitch cage," Williams said. "I've been seeing the ball clearly ever since."
Williams also had two hits in Wednesday's 5-2 victory over South Bend Clay and continued his hot start through the tournament on Friday when he delivered a two-run single in the third inning off Crown Point starter Sean Qualizza. Williams added an RBI double in the fourth inning.
"We came out and we did what we had to do to move on," Williams said.
After four close games to start the tournament, Friday's contest had a different feel as the Storm opened up a big lead and coasted to the finish line. The lack of energy from the field was felt throughout the stadium.
"I kept looking at my guys, trying to get them going," Porter County coach Nick Doud said. "It was like they thought it was a stroll in the park, not in terms of the competition, but just the game itself. Once we got some runs on the board it was a little better."
Chris Bruno and Jordan Landgrebe combined to limit Crown Point to five hits and one run, as the All-Stars left eight runners on base.
"We're in a really good situation (in the winners' bracket)," Doud said. "We're able to have some extra rest and that helps our pitching staff. My ace (Cody Triscik) actually came up to me today and said he wanted to pitch."
Doud could pitch Triscik or left-hander Jesse Kellar in today's contest against South Bend Eastside.
Crown Point will play Logansport in an elimination game on Saturday morning and forces a long road to the championship game.
